New character revealed for Episode VII 04/01/2014
A spokesperson for Disney/Lucasfilm has confirmed that Jar Jar Binks will be in Episode VII.
Despite rumours of cast members returning from the Original Trilogy, unitl now only R2-D2 has been confirmed.
The choice of Jar Jar Binks has so far been met with mixed reviews, but the spokesperson was confident they could win over skeptics.
"We want to avoid the mistakes of Episode I. Jar Jar's appearances in Star Wars: The Clone Wars proved very popular and we want to build on that as well as providing a link to younger audience members who are more familiar with the Prequel Trilogy.
"We will be returning to some old planets in the new trilogy, such as Tatooine and Coruscant, and Naboo was one of those talked about in an early draft of the script.
"Jar Jar was a disgraced Senator after the events in Episode III. All his friends were gone, and he was forced to grow up. 50 years or so is a long time to see how Jar Jar has matured and become leader of the Gungans."
Whether he will appear as a cameo, or have a larger role is uncertain, but love him or hate him - Binks is Back, okey-days?
