First Character Confirmed for 'Star Wars: Episode 7'  11/22/2013

Beloved astromech droid R2D2 has become the first officially confirmed character for 'Star Wars: Episode 7'. Not that we ever doubted he would feature...

Disney made the official announcement this week that the diminutive droid, who appeared in all six of the Star Wars movies, would be returning for 'Episode 7'.

The studio also revealed that it had hired specialist British Star Wars fan droid builders Lee Towersey and Oliver Steeples to work on Abrams' film, which will begin shooting early next year for a December 2015 release.

We look forward to the release of more details as pre-production continues.
